Seeing Haiti through His eyes

Tonight we stood on a roof top in the midst of a beautiful, devastated Haiti and praised the Lord. Thunder rumbled through the sky, lightning flashed, and we were not afraid. At least not very afraid. Everything is different here. I wish you could see it.  The God who fashioned the world is re-molding our hearts. He is teaching us to see through His eyes. To hug the orphans with the snotty nose. To hold the diapered infants even at the risk of an unexpected overflow. (talk to kristi) He is teaching us to ask for His voice and hear and obey when He comes. He is teaching us to give ourselves...

Haiti: Perception vs. Reality

Perception: Haiti is a poor country.  Reality: People in Haiti have little or no money, little or no food, little or no money, little or no toys … This “Reality” is redefining my perception of “poor.” the Haitians I met today – over 150 orphans and their few caregivers, are poor in every sense of the word as I understood it two days ago.  But they are rich – far richer than I – in their faith of God and love for others. God’s love shown from their faces their hands and their hearts as THEY reached out to US today.   Pray with us: That...

Heard God speak and provide today in Haiti

Verse for the day… Colossians 3:12 Therefore as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.    We started the day listening to a 4AM worship service being held beneath where we are staying.  What a beautiful sound  hearing our Savior’s name being lifted up even before the sunrise! Nothing could have prepared us for the things that happened today!     We started with devos and an orientation. Larry had Col. 3:12 laid on his heart and shared it with the group. We...

Everyone arrived safely!!

With Spirits high and droopy eyes it’s 10:52 and everyone is officially aslep. It took us 2 1/2 hours to get to our ministry location. On the way we drove past the three pillars of power in Haiti: the presidential palace, the state catholic church and senate which all had collapsed during the earth quake. We also had a chance to see the down town area that was devistated. Several parts of the ride were quiet in contemplation. WHen we arrived in carfuee, we were met by a down pour of rain. The 5 min. hike to pastor Davids house was an adventure. After finding a few squares of floor to...

Haiti is still in the headlines

Just through my second day in Haiti, back after one month away. Clint, Neil Bruinsma and I have been preparing for our week long trip that’ll begin tomorrow afternoon when the team from Nebraska arrives. As I write this, the pastor’s family sing worship songs downstairs. I imagine they’ll go for an hour or so, a far cry from their 4-hour session our first night here.   Something Clint said yesterday echoes in my mind as I consider their state… If the gates of hell will not prevail against His church than an earthquake will not prevail against the passion of...

Small Loans in Haiti Making Big Impact in God’s Kingdom

Microfinance is one of the primary ways we are committing to helping Haiti.  Matt Loeffler and his wife Tiffany spent one-week in Haiti with AIM; since then, he’s been helping to develop our church-to-church and microfinance programs.  He shares about some of the fruit already being borne from this “seed money”:   Our approach was to have the pastors select a group of individuals from their congregation who they knew to be both successful business owners and solid men & women of faith. This way they had a support network within the church of...
