Haiti is still in the headlines

Just through my second day in Haiti, back after one month away. Clint, Neil Bruinsma and I have been preparing for our week long trip that’ll begin tomorrow afternoon when the team from Nebraska arrives. As I write this, the pastor’s family sing worship songs downstairs. I imagine they’ll go for an hour or so, a far cry from their 4-hour session our first night here.   Something Clint said yesterday echoes in my mind as I consider their state… If the gates of hell will not prevail against His church than an earthquake will not prevail against the passion of the...

Moving Forward in Haiti: An Update

We first responded to the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti over eight months ago. We’ve sent over 800 people comprising of missionaries, counselors, medical professionals, students, pastors, photographers, videographers, former military personnel. These teams have spent as little as one week to a couple months in Haiti.  When teams come, we partner them with pastors and their churches and ministries, such as orphanages and schools. Sometimes this means distributing truckloads of rice, beans, cooking oil, and tarps. It might look like clearing rubble. It might...

A Look Into Ministry in Haiti-VBS

Ministry takes all different forms here in Haiti.  There is so much need, and so much to do it’s hard to cover it all in one short term trip.  Still the teams that come through during their week trips really impact the lives they meet and leave lasting impressions.  The following is the first part in a photo-series of a more in depth look at the ministry that we are a part of in Haiti.  The first look is VBS.    VBS begins with a series of songs and icebreakers      The children love the hand motions, even if they don’t understand the...

School Reopens in Leogane

Remember The College Frere La Rochecafould — the school in Leogane that was completely destroyed in the earthquake, yet none of the students were harmed?   The pastor told us that if he could just get the supplies he could get a team of people to rebuild the school. (If you need a refresher, you can find the story here and see the video interview with Pastor Ambroise.) Friday I was able to catch the last few minutes of a class in session. A little over a month after we first met with Pastor Ambroise classes resumed at the school. Mounds of rubble and debris have been removed and...

Supplies for the Son of God Orphanage

The Son of God Orphanage is currently under investigation for trafficking children. Read our official press release for more. “We have been praying for years for mattresses.” That one sentence has remained in my mind for the past week, floating around and resurfacing, calling me to ponder . Last Wednesday, after two days of searching Port-Au-Prince and negotiating with vendors for the best price, three trucks loaded down with 46 mattresses and one baby bed arrived at the Sons of God Orphanage in Carrefour. The answer to years of prayers for those who care for the 124 children...
