What Is the Solution for Haiti?

I just read an excellent blog post by Adam McLane, remembering the one-year anniversary of the earthquake. As you may remember, Adam was one of our first Haiti mission trip team members as part of the Youth Ministry Advance Team. He makes a compelling argument for why the solution to Haiti’s continued struggles is you (and me). Here is an excerpt:   A year ago the earth shook and the world changed. Billions were given. Tens of thousands have gone to help. Yet not much has changed. The poor suffered. The rich got richer. More people died needlessly. The UN has...

Haiti: Perception vs. Reality

Perception: Haiti is a poor country.  Reality: People in Haiti have little or no money, little or no food, little or no money, little or no toys … This “Reality” is redefining my perception of “poor.” the Haitians I met today – over 150 orphans and their few caregivers, are poor in every sense of the word as I understood it two days ago.  But they are rich – far richer than I – in their faith of God and love for others. God’s love shown from their faces their hands and their hearts as THEY reached out to US today.   Pray with us: That God...

Heard God speak and provide today in Haiti

Verse for the day… Colossians 3:12 Therefore as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.    We started the day listening to a 4AM worship service being held beneath where we are staying.  What a beautiful sound  hearing our Savior’s name being lifted up even before the sunrise! Nothing could have prepared us for the things that happened today!     We started with devos and an orientation. Larry had Col. 3:12 laid on his heart and shared it with the group. We made...

Everyone arrived safely!!

With Spirits high and droopy eyes it’s 10:52 and everyone is officially aslep. It took us 2 1/2 hours to get to our ministry location. On the way we drove past the three pillars of power in Haiti: the presidential palace, the state catholic church and senate which all had collapsed during the earth quake. We also had a chance to see the down town area that was devistated. Several parts of the ride were quiet in contemplation. WHen we arrived in carfuee, we were met by a down pour of rain. The 5 min. hike to pastor Davids house was an adventure. After finding a few squares of floor to...

Haitian Rains Create Quandries

Daily now the clouds gather and take on a dark persona, the winds shift and inevitably an incalculable number of free falling water droplets descend on Port-Au-Prince. The forecast for this week alone predicts several inches of rain will fall in this disaster stricken city. The rainy season is a normal, yearly occurrence in the Caribbean, but this year it seems to be ramping up earlier than usual. With hundreds of thousands still displaced and living in homes of tarp and rope, sheets and string, and other makeshift housing in Port-Au-Prince and outlying areas, torrential downpours also bring...
